PMP Measuring Cylinders for Measuring Fluids in Your Lab and Workshops

Polymethylpentene (PMP) cylinders are used for measuring fluids in chemistry labs and workshops and may have a blue polypropylene base. PMP  has excellent chemical resistance, low moisture absorption and good electrical properties. It is a low dielectric.  This means the electrical strength as a plastic is low. It has  clarity, transparency, gas permeability. It has good heat and chemical resistance and release qualities. They would not break easily like glass.  They may have molded graduations or printed graduations. Graduated cylinders are suitable for food and beverage use.

In-mould labeling, coating the reverse side of the label with a heat seal layer is done and followed by a substrate material in which heat resistant ink is applied to. A heat resistant coating of lacquer is then applied. This process eliminates the need to flame treat the bottles prior labeling to achieve adequate adhesion. Electrostatic charging electrodes charge a label while it is being transferred to the molding machine, so that when the label is placed on the tool and released by a labeling robot, it will paste itself around the cylinder.

Graduated cylinders in transparent PMP withstand changes of any sort even after autoclaving at 121’C. They have very specifically visible and sharp blue printed graduations. The stable hexagonal bases have non-slip anti-suction features that promote the cylinder’s adherence to the surface below such that no slipping or wobbling or inaccurate measurements occur. They also have recycling codes and batch codes on each cylinder.

Features:

  1. They virtually have no meniscus, as in other measuring cylinders  to confuse readings at ring marks , providing great accuracy even after getting sterilized and a clear see-through space is available. But if autoclaved, accuracy may be affected. The graduations are mold-resistant.
  2. Accepted and tested by ISO standards
  3. Container, such as a flask or beaker, tips over- spilling the fluid. PMP’s large blue hexagonal base prevents tipping or rolling-over.
  4. Varieties of sizes are available and have a pour spout to make pouring easier.  Can be autoclaved, but accuracy will be affected.
